Proteus is a gram negative bacilli strain widely dispersed in the intestines, feces of humans and animals, and in sewage. It is characterized by being covered with peritrichous flagella and moving vigorously.
Although is considered as a non-virulent bacteria, it is one of the pathogens that infrequently causes opportunistic infections.
